The work that God calls us to do does not end at the close of our life or ministry. God calls our successor to continue the work He has started. The person responsible for taking the mantle of another's ministry should not take it lightly. In today's lesson we will see how God provided successors for both secular and spiritual leadership in Israel. Jehu assumed the mantle of king and Elisha assumed the mantle of prophet. God controls our future. He decides when our work is finished and who will succeed us. God gave Elijah a ministry of miracles and called Elisha to succeed him. Elisha's responded by making the sacrifices needed in order to fulfill Elijah's ministry of miracles. Consequently, God honored his request and gave him a double portion of Elijah's anointing. Not surprisingly, Elisha finished his ministry with twice as many miracles as Elijah.
